Developmental Anatomy (Embryology) Fiasco

November 22, 1989-After class terminated for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, an acquaintance and I packed my vehicle and headed home to Wyoming for the holiday. I planned to study biochemistry and developmental anatomy (embryology) when not driving during this journey. During the first portion of this long trip, I studied biochemistry. I planned to study embryology during the second portion of the voyage but became dismayed to discover my class notes were not in the vehicle! Naturally, I believed I left the notes in my room back in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

November 27, 1989-Upon returning to Grand Forks at approximately (6:30 PM) I immediately initiated an exhaustive search for the developmental anatomy notes. The search encompassed my dormitory, the medical school (including library) and the University’s lost and found departments. Clearly, the notebook containing the developmental anatomy notes was indeed missing.

November 28 and 29, 1990-I appraised Judy DeMers (Associate Dean of Students), John Oberpriller (Developmental Anatomy Course Director), and John McCormick (assistant to John Oberpriller) of the situation. They offered no real assistance however John Oberpriller ordered me to take the examination stating "we’ll see what happens and we’ll go from there."

November 30, 1989-I passed all portions of the test taken from the textbook but failed those portions of the examination taken exclusively from the class notes. Subsequently, (after the final examination), John Oberpriller stated I should have asked for an extension and taken the first examination a day later after I had time to review the class notes! Remember, I advised him my class notes were missing before the examination!

December 3, 1989-I received an anonymous telephone call pertaining to the missing notes. Because I believed I misplaced the notebook, I felt this call was a prank and did not take it seriously.

December 12, 1989-I received additional communications referencing my notes. However, these calls had a threatening and ominous quality prompting me to alert medical school officials (Judy DeMers) and the University of North Dakota police.

Judy DeMers and the University of North Dakota supported this depraved behavior!
